The Hermitage of the Larks at Trevi
The Franciscan hermitage of Campello is a white spot in the green mountains that overlook Fonti del Clitunno.
The hermitage goes back to the year 1000, although the first firm reference to it is from the 14th century. It was visited by St Francis and St Bernard of Siena, but the cave from which it emerges dates back to the 5th century and seems to have been inhabited by hermits from Syria.
The building was restored around 1930 by Sister Maria, who founded a monastic order and entered into a dialogue with the religions of the world according to the Franciscan precepts of peace and fraternity. Inside the convent one can admire a exceptional view, with a particularly beautiful small cloister, the remains of a tower, a Roman tomb from Silla’s era and a small 14th-century church.
