The convent is located just outside the city walls among olive groves and woods on a site that overlooks the surrounding valley.
Tradition says that it was founded by St Francis in 1213 during one of his visits to Stroncone. The site has been extensively renovated over the centuries.
From the outside you can admire two chapels: in one there is a fresco by Tiberio d’Assisi (1509) featuring the Madonna with child on the throne and four saints; in the other, scenes from the life of Sant’Antonio Abate.
