The church is not far from Francis’ Way, just before reaching Trevi. This is where Francis had his temptation, a night in which he shut himself away to pray; here Fra’ Pacifico also had a vision of the vacant throne, lost by Lucifer and destined for Francis.
The name ‘Bovara’ comes from a pagan tradition linked to the purification of oxen in the water of the river Clitunno before they were sacrificed to the gods.
Inside the church there is a wooden cross, in front of which -according to local tradition- St Francis prayed.
